ACEF’s “Green Communities & Sustainable Consumption Project” Proposal to be Submitted to 2016 Two Sessions

            As the 12th Session of the National People's Congress’ 4th meeting and at the 12th Session of CPPCC National Committee’s 4th meeting (hereby abbreviated as ‘2016 Two Sessions’) are about to commence, ACEF held an expert consultation panel in Beijing on February 25th around the topic “Green Community & Sustainable Consumption”, a project jointly implemented by ACEF and the United Nations Environment Programme. Following the panel, ACEF intends to deliver a formal project proposal to Two Sessions. Shaofeng Chen, Director of China of Academy of Science’s Institute of Policy and Management, Xiaoyue Shen, Director of Policy Research Center for Environment and Economy of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Min Jin, Associate Professor of Renmin University’s Faculty of Environment, Lingling Shi of Beijing Normal University, Xiaoyi Gao, Director of ACEF’s Department International Cooperation and Lingling Yao, Program Officer at ACEF attended the meeting and engaged in deep discussion.

           The meeting circled around two 2015 project reports from the “Green Communities & Sustainable Consumption” project, namely “Standards and Indicators for Evaluating Models of Sustainable Consumption in Communities of Beijing, China” and “Policy Research on Stimulating Sustainable Consumption in Beijing Community Households”. In light of “green living” as a recent hot topic and according to field research for the project, the meeting concluded with the decision to draft the proposal on the improvement residents’ drinking water quality and on improvement of disposal systems for domestic waste.

           After the meeting, ACEF will incorporate discussion material to compose a formal proposal and submit the proposal in time to 2016 Two Sessions.
