Eco-tourism in China’s Scenic Spots Program is jointly organized by All-China Environment Federation and China Tourism Association. Its objective is to form an alliance of all the scenic spots in China in promoting the sound development of eco-tourism, integration of economic development, social progress and environmental protection and implement the strategy of sustainable tourism.

The activities in the program include: promotion of low-carbon economy; carrying out experiments of low-carbon tourism; selection of advanced models in low-carbon tourism and naming them “National Low-carbon Experimental Scenic Spot”. The experiences of these models are summarized and disseminated throughout the country so as to promote sustainable tourism in China.

The program was inaugurated on 19 June 2010. The organizing committee of the program announced criteria for the selection of National Low-carbon Experimental Scenic Spot.

On 16 January 2011, the National Conference on Low-carbon Experimental Scenic Spot and Awarding Ceremony was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, and 50 scenic spots and regions including Yuanmingyuan Park and Purple Bamboo Park in Beijing, Huangshan Mountain in Anhui Province, and Changbai Mountain in Jilin were awarded. 

Introduction of Guanlan Lake Tourism Resort

The Guanlan Lake Tourism Resort is located between Shenzhen city and Dongwan city, with 12.626 square kilometers in the area and approximately 20 square kilometers in the extension area, and invested and managed by the Guanlan Lake Group. At the end of 1992, the resort began to be built, costing over 10 billion RMB. The resort has been developed into an international tourism resort, including 7 functional services, that is, sports, business, physical fitness, tourism, entertainment, food and drink, long and short-term lodging.
 

The resort provides:

-  golf and aerobic sports facilities;

-  SPA and fitness center;

-  business, conference and travel services;

-  international competition facilities and services.
 

So far, the resort has held more than 100 international competitions in different areas, such as golf, tennis, table tennis, and bicycle racing, and provided services for trade, sports and cultural events. The resort has also hosted many visits of international celebrities. Through these activities, the resort has become a famous international communication platform at home and abroad.
 

It has the following facilities: the 216-hole Guanlan Lake Golf Center, the best in Asia and one of the best in the world: Guanlan Lake Country Club with a tennis court, the largest one in Asia, an international business hotel, international conference center, one large-scale SPA center, health and sports facilities, 10 Chinese and Western food restaurants, a training center of golf and tennis, a golf school and a tennis school. Every year about 1,800,000 Chinese and foreign guests visit the resort.
 

Since its establishment, the Guanlan Lake Golf Center has integrated environmental protection into its management system, conducting the environmental impact assessment and the planning and building of its environmental facilities. During the construction of the golf course, measures are taken to avoid soil erosion and removal of trees there. The center passed ISO14001 environmental management certification in December 1992 and became the first golf center with the certificate in China. The center got a lot of honor, including Circular Economy Excellent Enterprise and Demonstration Unit, Emission Reduction Excellent Enterprise, Cleaner Production Enterprise in Shenzhen city and Guangdong province, etc. With the spirit of continuous improvement, the center kept on upgrading its environmental management system through the investment of more than 40 million RMB in environmental construction of 17 projects. 
 

With strategic principles of low-carbon economy, environmental protection and ecological conservation, the Guanlan Lake Group has persisted in sustainable development and done a lot of work, including: developing the Sustainable Strategic Framework; taking measures to reduce emissions through sound management of energy, water and waste; ecological conservation; low-carbon transportation; sustainable procurement; sustainable project planning; and sustainable competition activities. In a word, all the services provided by the Group, including food, lodging, travel, shopping, entertainment, conference, fitness, and competition activities reflect the concept of energy saving and emission reduction.
